The Heinz Center Biodiversity Chair:
A New Frontier in Biodiversity

In August 2008 The Heinz Center Board of Trustees announced Tom Lovejoy as the first recipient of the newly created Heinz Center Biodiversity Chair.

Central to the Heinz Center’s mission is the belief that we must all work together on the complex issues of global change.

Tom Lovejoy in a Deforested FieldAs we face the greatest environmental challenges in our history, the Biodiversity Chair’s mission is to promote the protection of fragile ecosystems around the world by bridging the gap between scientists and policymakers to help convey nature’s crucial role in climate change and the fate of the planet.

As Biodiversity Chair, Tom works with international leaders to address the challenges of managing and conserving our precious global natural resources while encouraging a healthy economy. He is a leader in developing creative solutions for our rapidly changing planet, and applying the best thinking to the difficult environmental problems facing the world’s populations today.

In preserving a healthy planet rich in biodiversity, we ensure that generations to come will be able to inhabit the Earth with the hope of a brighter future.
